Registered Massage Therapy
Massage therapy can be performed in a relaxing or stimulating manner. Pressure of can very from light – deep and may be done with joint movement.
The area where the massage therapist is working may not be near where the pain originates or where you feel the pain the most.
Massage therapy treatments use a combination of the following techniques based on the goal of the treatment, pain tolerance and present conditions.
- SWEDISH MASSAGE (muscle tension, mental health, injuries, pain management)
- MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (swelling/inflammation, acute injuries)
- MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (muscle tension, injuries, pain management)
- BLADDING (swelling, acute or chronic pain, scar tissue, adhesions, fascial restrictions)
- DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE (muscle tension, injuries, pain management)
- CUPPING (For chronic pain & tightness, scar tissue and fascial adhesions.)
Treatments can be done weekly – monthly. Undoing chronic adhesions and trigger points built up over a lifetime is best achieved with ongoing massage, correcting posture and doing homecare provided. Your therapist may teach you some of these techniques and/or give you any other types of home care to improve or manage the pain you are experiencing.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a treatment for pain, where very thin, single-use sterile needles are inserted into specific areas in the body called acupuncture points. The needles activate nerve fibers that interfere with the pain signals being sent to the brain and stimulates the body to produce it’s own endorphins to help decrease pain and promote healing.
The needles may be stimulated either by hand or with electrical stimulation. Everyone responds differently to acupuncture, some feel a dull ache when treatment starts, but report the ache quickly fades. Once the needles are in place, there should not be any significant pain.
Pain relief may be felt right away, within hours, the following day/treatment. Some may not feel any pain relief on the initial treatment and may need up to 6 sessions to determine if acupuncture is helping or not. Each session is 30 minutes long (needles are in for 20 min), the number of treatments required varies with each person and the condition being treated.
These treatments are insurable.
Hot Stone Massage Therapy
During a hot stone massage, the techniques of a regular massage are applied. The therapists holds onto the stones and uses them to massage with. The weight & heat of the stones allow the therapist to get deeper into the muscles without more pressure, helping clients to relax yet further. The therapist also works with hot stones that are placed on specific parts of the body to retain heat. Contrasting cold/hot stones are can be used in areas of inflammation.
The stones are smooth, flat and made of the volcanic rock type called basalt. These particular stones are chosen because they retain heat.
Five benefits in addition to deep relaxation include: pain relief, stress relief, increased joint flexibility, better sleep, decreased muscle spasm and tension
These treatments are insurable.
